About Me
My name is Deborah Irene do Carmo (maiden name: Parry) and as a:
- native UK English speaker;
- qualified lawyer;
- experienced linguist; and
- absolute stickler for detail,
legal translations are my core business. I also provide legal abstracting, editing and research services, all at a highly competitive price/quality ratio.
Academic background
- Bachelor of Laws - first class honours - University of South Africa
- Faculty Medal for best law graduate - University of South Africa
- Postgraduate Diploma in Editing and Revising Technical Texts in English - Universitat Rovira i Virgili, Spain
- IoLET Diploma in Translation course (Dutch to English) - City University, London
- IoLET Diploma in Translation (Dutch to English, General, Law and Business papers) - Chartered Institute of Linguists
Professional background
Apart from the obvious benefits of having studied and then practised law in a bilingual system for over a decade (specialising in bankruptcies and liquidations), my legal background means I understand the real implications of deadlines, the need for candid honesty with a client about my availability and ability before a job is accepted and, of course, client confidentiality.
My postgraduate editing background means I truly focus on detail, producing a polished product that reads like an original rather than a stilted translation.
